Shireen Taweel: The Trig Point is a major monograph on a practice shaped by cosmology, architecture, mapping and sacred form. Bringing together selected works, an essay by Anneke Jaspers, and a conversation with Noura Al Sayeh Holtrop, the publication traces how Taweel draws on astrophysics, Arab and Islamic cosmologies, ornament and systems of navigation to consider migration, displacement and the search for orientation and home.
Richly illustrated throughout, the book moves across sculpture, drawing and installation, revealing a practice that sits between the earthly and the celestial. Geometric structures, celestial bodies, maps and ornamental forms recur throughout, creating a visual language that is both rigorous and poetic.
